The second leg of the Triple Crown, the Preakness Stakes at Pimlico, is much anticipated because American Pharoah [their spelling] won the Kentucky Derby and is ready to be Anointed by many as the Heir to the Triple Crown, the Kentucky Derby, Preakness, and Belmont series constituting the Most Famous Horseraces of All Times!
Last week, I posited that American Pharoah and Dortmund would come out on top because of the Air configurations in their charts (Aquarius, Gemini, and Libra) being ignited by the Moon's position in Libra and the North Node Eclipse line occurring in the Sagittarius-Gemini axis. I also thought that Bolo would do well, on this theory, but this was not borne out. Instead, Firing Line came in second, exhibiting a Capricorn-Sagittarius configurations (see the chart below). Why was that? Well, his Moon is in Sagittarius and you can never discount a Capricorn's ability to Mount to the Heights! Of course, he is one of the older horses — but this does not explain my fellow Capricorn Mr. Z did not do well.
This week, I will add the Sun-Moon configurations of the jockeys into the equation and explore the possibility that astrological compatibility of the horses with their riders might foretell how the contest will turn out.
I must repeat the usual caveats about trying to use astrology to predict horserace winners. We do not know the hour that the horses were born — or even exactly where they were born — so we cannot do the very important rising signs and houses of the horses. In addition there are a lot of other beings' charts involved, the jockies, the trainers, and the owners. Enormous, composite charts would have to be done in order to do a more accurate reading — an daunting task! This race, I will try to add the jockeys into the mix, but I must point out that we do not know their birth hours either, so we cannot cast their true charts.
Looking at the matchup of the jockeys with the horses, we must remark the Extraordinary Compatibility of Victor Espinoza with American Pharoah. Victor shows the same Air-Air configuration as his mount, indicating excellent compatibility. Could this be the Astrological Secret of their Success?
Martin Garcia and Dortmund also show that this might be a good partnering — especially if Dortmund's Moon is in Scorpio rather than Libra (the /'s indicate that the body changes sign during the day, so I do not know for sure the sign in which it is found).
Sure enough (but coming in third place in my mind), Gary Stevens' chart harmonizes with Firing Line in that a matchup of the Pisces Sun (Water) with the Capricorn Sun (Earth) is a compatible combination. Similarly, Gary's Leo Moon (Fire) gets along very well with the horse's Sagittarius Moon (Fire).
Using the same process, Trevor McCarthy and Bodhisattva look fairly compatible, Aries to Leo Fire and Scorpio to Taurus Water-Earth.
The other pairings do not look so promising to me, since they involve squares. You can take a look yourself, realizing that Taurus, Virgo, and Capricorn are Earth signs, and they get along with other Earth signs and with the Water signs (Pisces, Cancer, and Scorpio). As I noted last week, the Air signs (Aquarius, Gemini, and Libra) are compatible with themselves and with the Fire signs (Sagittarius, Aries, and Leo).
We should also look at the aspects for the Race Day to see how they might impact the outcome. The Moon is in Taurus (along with the Sun, heading for a Taurus New Moon on Sunday evening). This would seem to favor the Earth Signs primarily and the Water signs secondarily.
There is a Wonderful Trine (Harmonious 120-degree link) between Venus in Cancer and Neptune in Pisces at 2:49 PM EDT. The Preakness will definitely be Someone's Dream Come True! Now Venus rules Taurus and Libra and Neptune rules Pisces, so you do the math! (Interestingly, the Venus-Neptune thing may mean rain, and as a matter of fact, the weather forecast says that precipitation is possible on Saturday.)
Luckily, we do not have the same Mercury jitters as we had two weeks ago, so hopefully there will not be so many puzzling outcomes during the day. (Mercury in Gemini is slowing down, however, to start to go Retrograde —appearing to go backward in the sky — on Monday. Thus, perhaps, the Preakness will also be on the Slow Side, as the Kentucky Derby was.)
I am worried about a couple of Powerful aspects occurring the day before the race and the day after the race. Earlier Friday morning, Angry Mars in Gemini will oppose Serious Saturn in Sagittarius, at 2:03 AM EDT. And Mars will set off Shocking Uranus in Aries at 3:09 AM EDT on Sunday morning. These two aspects are troubling in terms of Sudden Accidents and Surprising Events!
They also may be a knock on the Aries' horses, as well as any horse or person with bodies in Gemini or Aquarius (which Uranus rules). Let us pray that nothing untoward happens, but forewarned is forearmed, as they say.
We have a lot of variables in the mix, and everyone can weight them in their own way, but these are my picks, astrologically speaking: 1 - Firing Line, 2 - Dortmund, 3 - American Pharoah, and 4 - Bodhisattva. Having said that, I really hope that American Pharoah will win, because I would love to see Triple Crown contention at the Belmont Stakes in three weeks, and I really love this horse! What will your picks be?

By the way, if you like Numerology, today is a Venus day, since the Moon is in Taurus. Venus's number is 6. Plus I think Mercury rules horseracing. Its number is 5. Thus, if you think this works, posts 5 and 6 may be favored.
