Kentucky Derby 2017: Looking for a Superstar Among the Stars

The Run for the Roses this year finds us without a clear-cut Superstar, absolutely bound to win Kentucky Derby 2017. Yes, Classic Empire is favored, but there enough negatives to make him not a “sure thing.” This leaves the field wide open to use astrology to divine which of these talented horses may come out on top! Which in the “Superstar Among the Stars”? “Your Lucky Times”SM have been doing this since 2010 — It’s a Tradition!

The Usual Caveats Apply

Using horse astrology is how “Your Lucky Times” got started. And while we — as well as some of our clients — have had notable successes in using astrology to win horse-racing bets, the usual caveats must apply. There are a number of issues with trying to use astrology to predict horse race winners:

• We do not know the hour that the horses were born — or even exactly where they were born — so we cannot calculate the very important rising signs and houses of the horses.

• There may be a lot of others’ charts involved, that is, the jockey, the trainer, and the owners. Very difficult, huge, composite charts would have to be done in order to do a more accurate reading — and it is impossible to get all of the underlying information!

More “Twins”

As in times past, because the thoroughbreds are born in late winter through late spring, there are two sets of horses with the same birthday! The are Always Dreaming and State of Honor, and Hence and Tapwrit (see the chart below). Theoretically, they should be equally talented. And in fact, we did see some similarities in the outcomes for the astrological “twins” Mohayman and Suddenbreakingnews in last year’s Derby, in which they came in 4^th and 5^th. So maybe there is something there!

The Factors

Last year I explained how I discovered that the position of Fortuna, the Roman Goddess of Fortune, may be important in identifying the Superstar thoroughbreds. I did this by looking at her position in the charts of winners such as American Pharoah, California Chrome, Secretariat, Rachel Alexandra, and others. And it was helpful in pinpointing which of the contenders had the better chance of hitting the board. So this year, I added Fortuna to my analysis, which you can see in the second last column in the table below.

This year I have an additional factor I think will be helpful. It is the aspects of the Progressed Chart (the natal chart progressed to the present day) — particularly those involving Uranus. The Eureka Moment occurred when I looked at Frosted’s sizzling win of the Met Mile last June. Because he was an older horse who suddenly burst into a Supernova, I looked at his Progressed Chart (too complicated to go into here) and found that his Mercury was conjoining Uranus, the Shocking Planet of Surprises, that day! What a find! Thus this year I am including the analyses of the Progressed Charts of the runners, as seen in the last column below.

Putting It Together with the Day’s Aspects

If you have followed my Triple Crown analyses over the years, you know that I compare the angles and aspects found in the contenders’ charts with how the transiting planets of the day are hitting them. In general, the Sun is in Taurus and the Moon is in Libra, which is all well and good.

But, unfortunately, I see a Potentially Very Hard aspect occurring today! At 8:54 PM EST, Mars in Gemini fights with Shocking Uranus in Aries (it is actually a very sharp semi-square — 45 degrees — which exhibits a Lot of Friction!) When the two Malefics of the Solar System are at odds, Watch Out!

Now, this baddy happens well after the 6:46 PM EST post time — and is not nearly so bad as what we saw for the Preakness last year. However, it could strike early and is angry enough to cause injury to man or beast. Let us pray that this does not happen.

On the Other Hand – and there is always an Other Hand with astrology — this explosive aspect could “spur” (no pun intended) a contender to the finish line with Rocket Power! Putting it all together, I see three groups of possibilities:

1. Always Dreaming and State of Honor, with their shared Natal and Progressed Fortuna aspects

2. Irap and Gunnevera, with their double doses of Fortuna and Progressed aspects

3. Classic Empire, McCraken, Gormley, and Practical Joke, with their strong Uranus aspects

I think it is this last group from which we will see the Kentucky Derby Winner for 2017 — and perhaps the Place and Show winners as well! Clearly, McCraken appears to have the advantage, with his natal, near-conjunction of Mercury and Uranus, the natal Fortuna square to his Sun and Uranus midpoint, and Uranus conjunct his Progressed Sun! With Mars hitting Uranus today, he looks like a Pretty Sure thing to me to be Our Superstar for the Day!

As for the others, Practical Joke, with his birthday coming 2 days after McCraken’s, but with slightly less awesome results, looks like the second place winner to me. That would put Gormley in 3rd and Classic Empire in 4^th!

You may weigh the Stars in another way! Study the data in the table below and Make Your Wagers (if that is what you do). But please remember, this is for entertainment purposes only.
