James, our able Guest Horse Astrologer, graces our pages once more as he did for the Triple Crown Races to give us his savvy, astrological insights into the most important of the Breeders' Cup Classic races
The 2018 Breeders' Cup Classic runs Saturday from storied Churchill Downs. A field of 14 goes to post at 5:44 p.m. ET and Accelerate is the morning line favorite at 5-2. The Breeders' Cup Classic 2018 runs 1 1/4 miles and has a purse of $6 million. It's one of the most-anticipated horse races of the year outside of the Triple Crown.
Astrologically on race day there is nothing too exciting. The Sun is in Scorpio, the Moon is in Virgo and there are not a lot of influential aspects. No Mars, Mercury, Moon, Pluto conjunctions that we saw for the Kentucky Derby.
Take note that Mercury is now in Sagittarius and the last time any of these horses raced, Mercury was probably in Scorpio. I will get to this for my selection in a moment.
Another interesting fact is that Aries will be the ascending sign during the time of the race and Mars will make a sextile (60 degrees) to that point.
The important‘Aries’ horse in the race is Catholic Boy (born April 12, 2015). His Sun is at 22 degrees of Aries, which falls right on the ascendant at race time and will get a sextile from Mars during the day. The last time Catholic Boy raced was August 25th, when he won and Mars was square this point. So, the Mars influence here on race day should have him ready and fired up to perform.
There are a lot of horses with a lot of aspects that could possibly win. I am not trying to hedge any of my predictions and I am personally partial to Mendelssohn, who has Mercury opposing Mars on race day. I just like this horse, and the transiting Mercury to Mars opposition is certainly worth a bet.
However the horse that I think will win the Breeders’ Cup Classic is McKinzie. (born February 25, 2015). As I mentioned above, Mercury has recently changed signs and now is in Sagittarius. Well, McKinzie on race day will have transiting Mercury conjunct his Saturn making a trine (harmonious 120 degrees) to his Mars. This to me is the winning aspect for the day! McKinzie to Win!!
