The Kentucky Derby has galloped up to us once again! What joy!! This is the kickoff of the Triple Crown races (Kentucky Derby - Preakness Stakes - Belmont Stakes) and some people in the know think that we may have a Triple Crown contender in American Pharaoh. Following close behind, and always mentioned in the second breath, is Dortmund.
Are the stars aligned? Well, this year (and it is the 6th year I have been doing this, not the 5th, as I wrote in the newsletter), we can use inductive rather then deductive reasoning to see what it is about American Pharaoh and Dortmund astrologically that has put them on top this year. Then we can see what other horse or horses match their planet configurations and thus are good candidates to do well in the race.
I must repeat the usual provisos about trying to use astrology to predict horse race winners. We do not know the hour that the horses were born — or even exactly where they were born — so we cannot do the very important rising signs and houses of the horses. In addition there are a lot of other beings' charts involved, the jockey, the trainer, and the owners. Huge, composite charts would have to be done in order to do a more accurate reading — an impossible task!
Also, once again, because the thoroughbreds are born in late winter through late spring, there are horses with the same birthday, War Story and Keen Ice. Theoretically, they should be equally talented. But they are not equally favored in the race. So the astrological knowledge that we have in this case may be of little help.
The thing we can look at is the aspects of May 2nd and how they might affect the outcome of the race. This coming Saturday, the Sun, as is usual for the Kentucky Derby, is in Taurus. The Moon is in Libra. So normally I would say that Earth-sign Suns (Taurus, Virgo, and Capricorn) and Air-sign Moons (Libra, Aquarius, and Gemini) should be favored. Clearly this is not the case with American Pharaoh and Dortmund this year (see the table of birth information below).
America's favorites this year exhibit Air-Air configurations (although I am not totally certain about where Dortmund's Moon was because we do not know the exact time of his birth. The "slashes"[/] show when the Sun or Moon of the animal changed from one sign to another — or was on the "cusp" between two signs.)
So this is going to be my working theory for this year: Air signs are favored because the North Node Eclipse Point was in Sagittarius when this crop of three-year-olds was born, or the Eclipse Line was on a Sagittarius-Gemini axis. Air feeds on Fire (the Fire signs are Sagittarius, Aries, and Leo) and this is what is giving these two Air sign horses the Boost!
Many prognosticators think that, after American Pharaoh and Dortmund, it is a Race for the Third Place. However, there are no other horses with Air-Air configurations, unless Bolo is truly an Aquarius-Aquarius horse. Which may be enough for you.
But let us dig a little deeper into the day's aspects. Thank goodness, Mercury is pretty well-behaved on Saturday(Mercury rules horseracing, in my opinion) after his shenanigans yesterday. (Maybe he didn't like having our space probe Messenger crashing into him yesterday.)
(I do worry that he does something Shocking with Uranus at 1:26 AM EDT Sunday morning and then opposes the Great Taskmaster Saturn at 3:36 AM EDT. I hope that this does not mean that some kind of insult or injury is hidden and does not come to light until the next day. . . .)
The Moon in Libra is generally helpful. It trines (harmonious 120-degree link) Venus in Gemini at 9:03 AM EDT! Venus rules both Taurus and Libra, so this may give us a clue.
The Moon goes on to parallel (like a conjunction) Neptune in Pisces at 1:30 PM EDT, lending Imagination and Spirituality to the mix. Neptune rules Pisces, so this may hint that Pisces will receive a boost. This brings up any number of candidates, such as Carpe Diem,Tencendur, or perhaps Upstart —or any number of the other horses, depending on how you look at it. I happen to like Carpe Diem, so I am going to go with: 1- American Pharaoh, 2- Dortmund, and 3- Bolo, and 4- Carpe Diem. What are your choices going to be?

* Please do not use these as the post numbers, if you are playing. Consult your own cards to lay any bets.
By the way, if you like Numerology, today is a Venus day, since the Moon is in Libra. Venus's number is 6. Plus, as I mentioned earlier, I think Mercury rules horseracing. Its number is 5. Thus, if you think this works, posts 5 and 6 may be favored.
Whatever you decide, please have fun with it. Don't go overboard!!
Yours in Good Fortune,
Lucky Star

Even though I wait to the last possible minute, I cannot guarantee that my picks will run -- or that they will win, of course! (Remember that two horses have dropped out of the race already and were replaced with alternates. Further scratches before post time are always possible.)
To repeat: Please remember that I am not encouraging you to bet the horses discussed or to gamble in any way. This is for entertainment purposes only! This is NOT a gambling site.
